Abstract

This volume collects the abstracts of the International Scientific Conference Gesto, funzione, significato: il tiro con l’arco tra archeologia, tradizione e contemporaneità. Percorsi materiali, simbolici e sociali dall’antichità al presente (Carbonia–San Giovanni Suergiu, 26–27 June 2026). The contributions address archery from a multidisciplinary and diachronic perspective, ranging from prehistory to the medieval period and extending to contemporary sporting practice. The topics covered include bow and arrow technology, the material culture of the archer, skeletal markers, and the symbolic, identity-related, and ritual dimensions of the bow across different societies of the past. The geographical contexts examined encompass prehistoric and Nuragic Sardinia, the Roman and Byzantine worlds, New Kingdom Egypt, the ancient Near East, and medieval Europe.
